The Likuliku Lagoon Resort is situated in the remote Mamanuca archipelago, and is Fiji’s most luxurious and exclusive island retreat, catering specially for discerning adult travelers.

The resort, though sitting amidst a tranquil setting, had a rather rocky start with its originally installed power supplies, which are non-Cummins sets.

The hospitality management encountered intermittent disruptions to guest service, frequent equipment breakdown and very often, unreliable power supplies in the day-to-day operations.

The situation immediately improved for the better when Cummins Power Generation enters the equation. Based on prior positive experience at a sister facility, Likuliku’s management team headed by Steve Anstey and Jason Philp, decided to approach the Cummins team to look into an overhaul of the power system.

Cummins Japan Limited (CJL) proudly announces a recent partnership with Meidensha Corporation (Meiden) in February 2012.

Arising from an expectant power shortage due to uncertain nuclear power plant operations in Japan, Meiden approached Cummins Power Generation to supply reliable diesel generator engines, where a first order of 3 units of QSK50-G4 was installed as standby power for their customer, Kyushu Electric Power Company.

Cummins’ long-standing reputations for producing G-Drive engines that are easily integrated with existing systems, durable, cost-effective and fuel-efficient, were reasons why the power brand was approached as part of Meiden’s backup plans to customers.

Thanks to the Cummins team’s collective support, the client was able to meet their final budget and planned schedule for this project.

Since founding in 1897, Meiden has been establishing innovations in its products and services, manufacturing and providing power solutions for sectors in infrastructures, business systems, industrial systems, engineering systems and real estate developments. The Tokyo-based corporation has nationwide domestic bases, as well as numerous global offices in US, Europe and Asia.

With Meiden’s extensive customer base and technical know-how, Cummins Japan Limited is now able to expand their market reach to an operation sector that was previously lacking. Currently 10 additional Cummins G-Drive units have already been planned to be delivered and installed over the next few years for various customers.

30th October 2011 was a milestone for Cummins Power Generation’s presence in Japan, when the country’s distributor Cummins Japan Ltd celebrated its 50th anniversary.

Cummins Japan Ltd (CJL) was established in 1961 as Komatsu-Cummins Sales Co. Ltd, a 50-50 joint venture that produced the N743 engines, made under license agreement at the Komatsu Oyama Plant. In 1985, Cummins Diesel (Japan) Ltd a wholly owned subsidiary of Cummins Inc. took over the business at Komatsu-Cummins Sales Co Ltd when licensing agreement terminated.

In 2002, Cummins Diesel (Japan) Ltd merged with Cummins North Asia (also established 50 years ago as a branch of Cummins Inc.) and Cummins Japan Ltd. was inaugurated.

Showing respect to the restoring efforts for the March 11 disaster, an internal celebration party was organized in place of the grander affair originally planned that would have included customers, dealer partners and employees.

On their way back to the States, CEO Tim Solso and COO Tom Linebarger attended the 21st October event, and presented the strategic importance of the Japanese market for the Cummins power brand.

All CJL employees appreciate support from customers, partners, and colleagues from the global Cummins family over the years, and look forward to deliver even more success and impressive results for the years to come.

Cummins Power Generation Stands Up To Citywide Power Down In South Korea

On 19 September 2011, several South Korean cities were hit by a major blackout, lasting up to five hours long.

Cummins Sales and Service Korea (CSSK), South Korean’s distributor for Cummins Power Generation immediately mobilized resources to provide action and support to their affected customers, whose facilities were supported with backup power from Cummins gensets, thereby minimizing operational downtime and equipment damages.

This was the country’s worst-ever power outage, affecting more than 1.6 million households, of which 400,000 were from Seoul.

Although no deaths were reported, widespread panic and chaos resulted from failed traffic lights causing massive jams, people trapped in lifts, and hundreds of factories halted production. Situations became life threatening for hospital patients, where medical equipment was direly affected.

Fortunately, companies and plants supported with backup power like those from Cummins power systems were quick to avert operational downtime and equipment damages.

CSSK’s speedy coping of the emergency once again validates Cummins’ capabilities and longstanding reputation of providing quality, reliable power solutions when the need arises.

“Cummins generators can be trusted in times of need to deliver effective emergency power; as a result of the fast response, damages to our plant are prevented,” commented one of Cummins Power Generation customers.

TDS commissioned the provision and installation of 29 emissionized Cummins engines in the 15-1250 kVA range in May. These G-Drive engines are designated as standby units, but are also rated as prime power support.

Following this, Cummins Japan anticipates a regular annual order of 25-30 engines from the client.
