Reverse osmosis (RO) desalination offers a solution to the widespread problem of inadequate supplies of freshwater. A new case study details how DCathlon DC generators are doing their part at the largest inland desalination plant in the world, near El Paso, Texas.

The plant takes previously unusable brackish groundwater and produces potable water. But because the plant is far from the ocean, there is the problem of how to dispose of the saline concentrate by-product left from the RO process. One solution: inject the concentrate deep into wells dug for that purpose.

The concentrate is injected into three wells located in a remote area — far from utility lines — near Fort Bliss. Because of their remote location, solar panels provide the primary power for the wells’ operation.
